Charming, historic Prescott began as a mining town with the discovery of gold in nearby Lynx Creek in 1863. In 1864, the town of Prescott was laid out along Granite Creek right where the gold had been panned. Today, much of Prescott's history has been preserved here in the place they call Everybody's Hometown. Whiskey Row boasts many important buildings, including the Palace, Arizona's oldest restaurant and bar. Incidentally, the city is named after author William H. Prescott, whose writings were popular during the Civil War.
