The History and Hostelries walking tour is a relaxed and informative introduction to this 'Fine City'. We don't rush - 3+ hours is usual! Norwich is compact, so no hiking boots, and no flasks of tea either - drinks are included in your ticket price! Find out how Norwich has developed over 2000 years (what did the Romans ever do for us?) and the contributions it has made to the world...and discover some of our many famous characters - people like Boudicca, William the Conqueror, Admiral Lord Nelson...and Alan Partridge! We'll talk about Norwich's early days and it's development up to the arrival of the Normans and we'll visit the oldest parts of the city to see what the French invaders did...followed by a millennium of revolt, refugees, persecution, war... sheep, shoes, chocolate and canaries! And of course brewing, an important element of Norwich's history. We'll stop off at notable hostelries to hear about what CAMRA calls "The City of Beer". What better welcome to Norwich?

Logistics Instructions

Start location : The tour starts at Pull's Ferry, one of Norwich's many medieval structures - easy to find on the Riverside Walk. NB - the postcode is for the nearest residence and so not quite accurate. If you get lost, just ask one of the friendly locals!

End location : Our start and finish points are close to the two original crossings of the River Wensum - both located a short walk from the very centre of the city.
